THE POWERFUL MEMOIR BY IRENE HUSTON

THAT DOOR

Book by Irene W. Huston, D.Th, M.Ed. B.A.

Adapted for the stage by Terrence Ivory, MFA

ABOUT

SYNOPSIS

Sexually abused at a very young age, followed by motherhood at 16, Carmen’s trauma affects every aspect of her life and mental health: school, work, motherhood, intimacy, and self-esteem. Under soul-crushing PTSD, she attempts suicide. The healing begins when an enormous light shows her a path forward, literally steering her car off the road, twice. She listens more deeply the second time, making a commitment to bring other victims to the healing light.

Witness a deeply moving and inspiring story of pain, grief, and healing. Artfully written this poignant and heartbreaking story of a journey through abuse, THAT DOOR shares Carmen’s experiences, illuminating her long and often painful path to healing. Richly interwoven with personal anecdotes, Carmen reveals how, in her darkest moment, she discovers a source of guidance and comfort through God.

With the help of “Inner Healing” seminars and other mentors, Carmen found the strength to challenge her long-buried pain. She stopped blaming herself and rediscovered the emotions that she’d been suppressing for decades, finally emerging as an inspiring voice for other abuse survivors.

A must-read for anybody who seeks a deeper understanding of the realities of abuse and the emotional scars left in its wake. This hard-hitting memoir stands as a testament to Carmen’s victory over her past.
